On Friday the 22nd of June 2007, personnel from
Drug Squad Vieux Fort were summoned to the Hewanorra
International Airport. On arrival, they were
introduced to Roger Fitzgerald Eastwood, a 34
year old Briton, by custom officials. Roger
Fitzgerald Eastwood arrived in St. Lucia on
Tuesday the 12th of June 2007 and was due to
leave for London, England on Virgin Atlantic
Flight No: 032.
Having cleared security in the departure area,
Mr. Eastwood was approached and questioned by
law enforcement officials. A search of his person
was conducted and 59 pellets containing cocaine
was recovered. An additionally amount of 25
pellets containing cocaine were recovered from
Mr. Eastwood’s faeces, under supervision
at the St. Judes Hospital. Eastwood was arrested
and charged for possession of cocaine and attempting
to export cocaine. He was brought to the Second
District Court in Vieux Fort on Monday the 25th
of June 2007, where he pleaded guilty to the
charges.
He was convicted and fined $10,000.00EC to
be paid forthwith in default one year imprisonment
on the possession charge and $36,000.00EC to
be paid forthwith in default two and half years
imprisonment on the attempting to export charge.
The imprisonment terms are to run concurrently.
He is presently at the Bordelais Correctional
Facility.
The cocaine weighed 905 grams and has a street
value of $18,100.00 EC currency.
