Caught With Drugs - 09/05/06

On Sunday the 7th of May 2006, about 2:20pm, members of the Drug Unit, Vieux Fort, acting on information received, set up a road block in an area along the Castries/Vieux –Fort highway.

During the exercise, a burgundy two-door Suzuki Vitara, registration number: PC3322 was stopped. A thorough search of the aforementioned vehicle was conducted in the presence of the driver, viz: Thomas Epiphane of Re-Union, Choiseul.

Consequently, a black plastic bag, which contained marijuana, was recovered on the back seat. Epiphane was arrested and escorted to the Vieux Fort Police Station, where he was subsequently charged for the offence of, Possession of Cannabis.

On Monday the 8th of May 2006, he appeared in court in Vieux- Fort, where he pleaded guilty to the charge. He was fined the sum of $3000.00EC to be paid in five months or in default, twelve months imprisonment. The drugs weighed two and a half pounds and were valued at $1500.00EC.
