The Drug Units of the North and South, destroyed five Marijuana
plantations in the Praslin area. A total of 1522 fully grown plants
and 62 seedlings were destroyed. Two persons were also arrested
with a quantity of Cannabis, namely: Stephen Mortly, AKA “Jimmy”
of Micoud and Belford Lesporis, AKA “Petit” of Bruceville,
Vieux Fort.
They have been charged with Possession of Controlled Drugs and
for Cultivation.
In more drug stories, on Thursday the 19th of January 2006, the
Castries Drug Unit, intercepted three French Nationals on the
Ciceron, Castries, beach, namely: Rudy Giselle Caille, age 36,
of Guadeloupe, Maddison Mavel Leathan, age 27, a Dominican leaving
in Guadeloupe and Malbolough Ruben, age 31, of Guadeloupe.
The men quickly jumped into a waiting speed boat and took off.
They were seen dumping parcels in the water. The men were later
intercepted by the Marine Unit who took them back to the area
where they were seen dumping the parcels in the water.
Members of the Marine Unit fished out a parcel out of the water,
which contained two rectangular blocks of Cocaine, with a weight
of 2 kilos. They were arrested and charged with Possession of
Controlled Drugs and Attempt to Export Control Drugs.
When the men appeared in court on Thursday the 9th of February
2006, Malborough Ruben pleaded guilty to the charges and was Cautioned,
Reprimanded and Discharged for Possession of the Drugs. For Attempting
to Export the Drugs, he was fined the sum of $63,000EC forthwith,
in default, two years imprisonment. The charges against the other
two men ,were withdrawn.
They were taken to court on Thursday 16th February 2006 at Bordelais
Correctional Facility. Stephen Mortley pleaded guilty to the offences
and was fined $7000 to be paid in two months in default one year
imprisonment.
