Update on Shooting Incident at Micoud

Acting on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs. Victoria Charles-Clarke, Police Constable 669 Garvin Saudatt, age 27 years, of Vieux Fort, attached to the Micoud Police Station, has been arrested and charged for the offence of Manslaughter by Recklessness, Contrary to Section 92 (b) of the Criminal Code of St. Lucia 2004.

He has been offered bail in the sum of $20,000EC with suitable surety. He also has to surrender his travel documents and report to the Laborie Police Station once a week. He is scheduled to reappear in court on the 15th of December 2006.

Constable Saudatt who has served in the Royal St.Lucia Police Force for the past seven years, has been suspended from duty by the Commissioner of Police. The other officers who were present during the incident are still on administrative leave pending what action, if any, should be taken against them.

The Royal St. Lucia Police Force would like to express its commiserations to the victims of this unfortunate incident.
