Prison Officer Convicted for Drugs

On Wednesday the 3rd of December 2008, a drug case involving a Prison Officer came to a conclusion in the Dennery court.
Dean Hippolyte, 27 years of Pavee Road, Castries, was arrested by Dennery police on Sunday the 30th of December 2007, about 7:00pm at the Bordelais Correctional Facility for the possession of three hundred grams (300g) of Cannabis.
The matter was handed over to the officers of the Drug Unit, Castries, who preferred two separate charges against Hippolyte, one, Posession of a Controlled Drug and the other, Possession to Supply a Controlled Drug.
He appeared in court where he pleaded not guilty but the case was granted several adjournments thereafter, until it was finally dealt with on the 3rd of December 2008.
The former Prison Officer was found guilty for the offences and he was sentenced to six months imprisonment on each charge and the sentences are to run concurrently.
Hippolyte served as a Prison Officer for a period of one year. |
