As part of their corporate plan, The Drug Unit of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force has included a few community projects of which the improvement to the Dunnottar School is a part.  This is basically a voluntary service given by the members of the unit.

The Dunnottar School is an educational institution located at La Pansee, Castries and it is responsible for the care and education of children and young adults with developmental disabilities.

On the 13th of December 2008, members of the Drug Unit commenced the improvement project, whereby they participated in the painting of the school. It was a whole day event and they were very pleased with their efforts to enhance both the exterior and interior appearance of the school; all who participated felt they had accomplished a great deal.
On Saturday the 3rd of January 2009, members of the Unit were present in large numbers and as part of the on-going support to the school, donated carpet for the floor. Some members even undertook some basic carpentry work at the institution.
When asked about their achievements regarding the project, the members of the unit proudly stated that they were at ease working in the environment and felt they had accomplished their goals. They have promised to continue giving voluntary service at the institution which they have adopted.
The Principal, Carolyn Archibald and members of her staff have expressed their deepest appreciation for the work undertaken by the Unit.
Staff and pupils alike were in exhilarated spirits when they reported for work and school respectively. They were greeted by newly painted walls and areas as they entered the premises.
The Principal further stated how pleased she was to learn that the members intended to continue assisting the institution.
Such an exercise is part of an on-going community policing project whereby the Police Force continues to re-double its efforts in increasing the bond between the police and members of the public who play a significant role in the battle against crime.
The police not only apprehend suspects but they also participate in humanitarian services and work in collaboration with the general public for a better and safer community.
