Tourists Robbed at Gunpoint

On Tuesday the 3rd of March 2009, about 10:15am, six tourists became victims of a robbery incident which occurred at the Venus Waterfall, Anse-La- Raye.

      The tourists were waiting near the roadside close to the waterfall, along with two drivers and a female tour guide, when three masked men wielding two firearms and a cutlass attacked them.

      They were robbed of their possessions which included: Digital cameras, wrist watches, cell phones, gold bracelets, U.S. currency and their bags. The drivers and the tour guide were also robbed.

      Subsequently, the perpetrators fled the scene with the use of one of the Land Rover vehicles that transported the tourists.

      A report was made to the Anse-La-Raye police who responded with alacrity and later found the vehicle which was abandoned a mile and a half away from the Venus Waterfall. The scenes of crime officers who thereafter responded to the scene, carefully examined the vehicle which was later returned to the company.

      No one has been arrested in connection with this incident, however, investigation is continuing in the matter.
