Customs Officer Charged for Stealing
On Wednesday the 9th of December, 2009, police preferred a charge against Donovan Joel Philgence, 26 years of Barre St. Joseph, Castries, for the offence of stealing by reason of employment.
The incident occured between April, 2008 and September, 2009 at the Vigie Cargo Shed, where Philgence operated as a Customs Officer responsible for the collection of government revenue. Reports indicate that he allegedly misappropriated the sum of $271, 855.66EC during the aforesaid period.
He appeared in court on Thursday the 10th of December, 2009, where he was granted bail in the sum of $15,000EC, cash or suitable surety or land documents. He was ordered to report to the Criminal Investigation Department (C.I.D), Castries, every Wednesday between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm and to also surrender his travel documents to the court. He is not allowed to apply for new travel documents without the permission of the court.
The case was adjourned to Thursday the 17th of December, 2009 for case management. |
