Colombian Woman Charged for Disturbance at Airport

On Tuesday the 16th of February, 2010, about 11:00am, officers attached to the Major Crime Unit of the Royal St.Lucia Police Force, responded to a report at the George F.L. Charles Airport, Vigie, Castries, which involved a 30-year-old woman, Sandra Figueroa Fernandez, of the Republic of Columbia.

According to reports, Fernandez was preparing to board a LIAT flight, bound for Trinidad and Tobago, when a black clock was found in her luggage, during the screening process. When questioned about the clock, she said it was a bomb. Airport authorities immediately suspended the operations at the airport until the arrival of the members of the Bomb Squad of the Royal St.Lucia Police Force, who thoroughly examined the clock and discovered that the information provided by Fernandez was false.

She was arrested and subsequently charged for the offence of Unlawful Disturbance and is scheduled to make an appearance in court on Friday the 19th of February, 2010.
