Colombian Woman Sent to Jail for Airport Disturbance
A 30-year-old woman, Sandra Figueroa Fernandez, of the Republic of Colombia, appeared in court on Friday the 19th of February, 2010, to answer a charge of unlawful disturbance.
After the charge was read to her she pleaded guilty and the facts were presented to the court. The magistrate explained to her the seriousness of that type of behaviour and issued a very stern warning then sentenced her to six months imprisonment.
The incident occurred about 11:00am on Tuesday the 16th of February, 2010, at the George F.L. Charles Airport, where Fernandez was preparing to board a LIAT flight, bound for Trinidad and Tobago. During the screening process, a black clock was noticed in her luggage and the authorities questioned her about it. She stated that the clock was in fact a bomb.
Operations at the airport had to be suspended until the arrival of the members of the Bomb Squad who thoroughly examined the clock and discovered that Fernandez had provided false information. She was arrested and later charged by the police. |
