Castries Man Charged With Forgery

On Tuesday the 17th of October 2006, 29 –
year- old Jeavon Channing, AKA Aliysious Chandler, appeared at the
First District Court in Castries, to answer seven charges of Forgery.
According to reports made to police, Channing submitted documents
to the U.S Embassy, bearing the letterhead of the Government of
St. Lucia and two banks operating in St. Lucia, on behalf of St.
Lucians applying for U.S. visas.
Subsequent to an investigation, the documents submitted by Channing
during the months of April and September 2006, were discovered to
be fraudulent.
Consequently, police arrested and charged Channing for the offence
of Forgery. He pleaded not guilty to the charges, but is scheduled
to reappear in court on Monday the 27th of November 2006. Bail was
granted in the sum of $3000.00EC cash or suitable surety, on each
charge.
The Royal St. Lucia Police Force appeals to persons who intend
to apply for U.S. visas, to be extremely careful with the origin
of the documents submitted by them. In addition to the criminal
nature of such activities, there is also the issue of the negative
impact on our relationship with the embassy.
